DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County's Chief Tax Appraiser has resigned following his arrest on misdemeanor drug charges.

The resignation came last week, one day after deputies found less than an ounce of marijuana in 36-year-old Michael Joseph Roberts' vehicle. That vehicle was parked at the county courthouse at the time. Deputies said they received a tip from someone who smelled the odor of marijuana near the vehicle on Tuesday, May 7.

Dawson County officials held a meeting Wednesday morning to discuss operation of the tax office. There's no word yet on the outcome of that meeting.
