LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinett County Police Animal Welfare & Enforcement is hosting a pet food and pet supply drive this weekend to aid the only functioning animal shelter in Moore, Oklahoma, the site of a devastating tornado on Monday.

The Feed a Friend program is collecting pet food and pet supplies throughout the Memorial Day weekend 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day through Tuesday at the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter at 884 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.

"We're taking any type of donations, food or pet supplies," said Cpl. Edwin Ritter of the Gwinnett County Police Department. "Any supplies you would use for a pet - leashes, collars, toys, anything along with food. Whatever you can send, they'll take it."

The City of Moore Animal Shelter has been flooded with displaced animals since the tornado, and while they are striving to find owners, assistance is needed to feed the animals while they have them.

"They're in desperate need to take care of these animals, and we want to help them out with that," said Ritter.

The donations recieved will be taken directly to the City of Moore Animal Shelter immediately after the food drive has ended.
