GAINESVILLE - The Northwinds Symphonic Band is celebrating Memorial Day with the "Spirit of American Heroes" concert.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church on Green Street in Gainesville. Admission is free, but conductor Ron Evans says seats will fill up fast.

"Usually people begin to get there no later than 6:30 to assure themselves of a great seat," said Evans. "If they want a good seat, they'll have to come early."

The concert will feature selections from three different time periods, including the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

The Revolutionary War segment will feature the Lakewood Quartet, while the American Civil War segment will feature a medley of Civil War songs and will be guest-conducted by Mercer Cook.

Johnathan Jacksom will also be featured in the concert, singing Elvis Presley's American Trilogy.

The concert will also spotlight three veterans: Charles Hyder, Sean Adams and Cecil Boswell.
