SUWANEE - Forsyth County authorities have arrested two men from the metro Atlanta area after the pair led them on a chase in the south end of the county Thursday.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Courtney Spriggs said the incident began when Deputy First Class Lawrence Tanner noticed the driver of a silver Toyota Camry was driving along Peachtree Parkway (Highway 141) without a seat belt.

Spriggs said the deputy followed the car into Bridle Ridge subdivision and attempted a traffic stop. That's when the driver, identified as 20-year-old Connor Dimick of Marietta, began to speed through the neighborhood, according to Spriggs.

She said Dimick made his way back onto Peachtree Parkway, and as he did that, the passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Erik Schatz of Lawrenceville jumped from the vehicle.

"Then the driver swerved and almost hit another deputy," said Spriggs. "That deputy got the car stopped using a PIT maneuver."

Spriggs said both Dimick and Schatz were caught a short time later and taken to the Forsyth County Jail.

When deputies searched the Camry, Spriggs said they found a variety of jewelry, along with some passports and cash. She said those items were believed to have been stolen in Cobb County thefts. None of the stolen merchandise came from Forsyth County.

Dimick is charged with Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Officers, Possession of Marijuana, Failure to Yield, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Speeding and Reckless Driving.

Schatz is charged with Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.

Spriggs said other charges may be forthcoming from Cobb County authorities.
