GBI agents probe deadly shooting at police station

SARDIS, Ga. (AP) Authorities say they're investigating a fatal shooting at a police station in a small east Georgia town.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents were at the scene of the shooting at the Sardis Police Department. Sardis is about 50 miles southeast of Augusta.

Burke County sheriff's Sgt. Dan Lowe said the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. Monday. Lowe said the GBI agents are taking the lead in the investigation.

Burke County Coroner Susan Salemi confirmed that one person is dead. Few other details were immediately available early Monday morning.
