Under a new state law that became effective July 1, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources must establish a separate turkey hunting season for youth hunters and those hunters who have impaired mobility.
The DNR has proposed opening up the season a few days early for those specific groups of hunters. Turkey season begins the first Saturday after March 19 and the season runs through May 15.
Interested parties are invited to offer input at the July 16 meeting, which is scheduled to being at 7 p.m. at the Wildlife Resources Division office, 2150 Dawsonville Hwy. in Gainesville.
