CLEVELAND - A 7-year-old White County girl was honored Wednesday afternoon at the White County Emergency Operations Center for her actions that helped save her mother's life.

On Aug. 23, Lynn Morris was in the car with her mother Lisa and two of her sisters. They had stopped at the Dollar General Store at the intersection of Georgia Highway 115 and Georgia Highway 254 east of Cleveland. Her mother suffered medical distress and she instructed Lynn to call 9-1-1, then passed out.

White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said Lynn called 9-1-1 and talked with dispatcher Elizabeth Howard.

Murphy said the little girl did an outstanding job giving the information. While dispatcher Howard was obtaining information she asked Lynn to go into the store and get an adult to help.

"She went inside," Murphy said. "First of all, though, she told her siblings in the car, 'y'all stay here in the car, remain calm - it's going to be ok.'"

He said she was the adult in the situation that was taking place.

Lynn went inside the Dollar General Store and contacted Sandra, a store clerk, and with the assistance of Sandra they were able to direct rescue personnel to the location, where they assisted Mrs. Morris and got her to the hospital.

Murphy presented the 7-year-old with a plaque recognizing her heroic action. He also presented Lynn with a couple of gift certificates and a bag full of goodies that she could share with her sisters.

Asked about all the attention she was getting, Lynn said, "I like it!"

And her mom is understandably proud.
