MABLETON, Ga. (AP) A middle school was placed on lockdown northwest of Atlanta Friday morning as officers searched for a person they feared was armed with a knife.

Cobb County police spokesman Michael Bowman said officers were checking all classrooms and other rooms inside Lindley Middle School to determine ``whether there was an actual perpetrator or threat.''

Bowman said no one has been injured.

He said the ordeal began when officers were dispatched to the school regarding a suspicious person who was armed.

The school is on Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton, about 10 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

Authorities said late Friday morning that students were not being released from school, and that parents planning to come to the school should instead go to Mt. Harmony Church on Veterans Memorial Highway.
