The Athens Banner-Herald reports rescue and emergency crews were summoned to respond to an apparent suicide after jailers found 26-year-old Ronson Tradd Westmoreland unresponsive in a cell. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Athens Regional Medical Center.
Sheriff's officials declined comment until the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Clarke County coroner complete an investigation into the death of Westmoreland, whose body was found Thursday afternoon.
Court records show Westmoreland was arrested Aug. 25 in connection with a family dispute at his home. He was released on bond but got jailed again Wednesday on charges of shoplifting and marijuana possession.
