At a school board work session Monday afternoon, Roach, who is the Hall County School District Safety Coordinator, said the Raptor Visitor Management System has processed 15,000 visitors so far this school year, including a couple who were turned away.
"[One guy] wanted to come get his transcript - I think he was 26-years-old - we ran him through the Raptor system, and it showed some things that showed just needed to mail him his transcript. He had no business being on any campus that we have," said Roach.
The school board voted earlier this year to implement the Raport system at the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year as another layer in the school's safety program. The system requires each visitor to a school to present a driver's license or other government-issued photo ID. The ID card is scanned and checked against a criminal database. If a match is found and confirmed, school administration is alerted. If the ID is cleared, then the visitor receives a visitor badge and can visit the school with no further questions.
Roach said parents don't mind the extra time it takes to check in when they come to visit their child's school.
"Parents are very grateful that we're trying to identify who's in our buildings," said Roach."
