GILLSVILLE - An overnight fire on Candler Creek Road in Gillsville destroyed a 1500-square foot house, according to Hall County Fire Services officials.

Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said his crews got the call just after 1 a.m.

"It was first called in by a hunter in the area - he called in the smell of smoke in the area - and later it was confirmed and called in by a passerby," said Cagle.

He said most of the house was already on the ground by the time fire crews arrived at the scene. Cagle said firefighters remained on the scene for about three hours to make sure hot spots were extinguished.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

Cagle said there were no signs of anyone being at home, and investigators are still trying to determine the whereabouts of the homeowner.
