"We had the opportunity to provide the tax payers with a more modernized and simpler tax statement," Eden said. "The new bills will be more informative as to exemptions and definitions of fees."
The new bills are in color, with pie charts and a scan-able payment code, and Eden added, most importantly, at less cost to the tax payer. Taxes are due by Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013.
"It'll be on the back and we'll have exemption information, the most common exemptions will be explained as well as definitions of fees that are included on the tax bill," Eden said.
There are also two initiatives in the Tax Office the Commissioner says she is really proud of. Tax Commission staff members who man all the payment windows are now cross trained. That means they can take both auto tax payments or property tax payments. There is also an information desk aimed at convenience and saving time.
"When you come into the office, the information desk will greet each visitor and make sure you have all the necessary documents," Eden said.
The associate manning the information desk can also help answer any questions about transactions, direct citizens to the appropriate place to conduct their county business or provide them with paperwork they may need.
For Spanish speaking tax payers, a bi-lingual staff member is manning the information desk and also new this year, a Spanish version of the tax bill will be available online.
