Alpharetta police say officers were sent to a home in the Atlanta suburb Wednesday evening in response to a 911 call. The caller requested that officers check on a woman who had sent a text message regarding threats to commit suicide.
Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that officers encountered a woman who was emotionally upset.
Gordon said the woman went into another part of the house, grabbed a firearm and pointed it at one of the officers. He said that prompted another officer to open fire on the woman.
The wounded woman was taken to North Fulton Hospital. Her condition wasn't available early Thursday.
