CLEVELAND -- White County pulled off a thrilling comeback win on Friday in Cleveland, including the go-ahead score with less than a minute to play as the Warriors knocked off Madison County 34-27.

Max Taylor ripped off the winning run, 15 yards up the gut, after the Red Raiders fumbled the ball away deep in their own territory with just 50 seconds remaining in a tie game.

Taylor finished the game with 66 yards rushing and, while Sam Turner added 97 yards and two scores on 17 carries to help pace a White County rushing attack that racked up 250 yards.

Turner also had a blocked punt, setting up a Sean Freeman scoop and score from three yards for the game's first touchdown. Yet Madison County (3-2, 1-1 Region 8-AAAA) fought back and took a 14-7 lead that stretched to 21-13 at the half.

The visitors made it 27-13 right after the interval, but White County pulled within 27-20 on Ky Crowe's 18-yard run with 1:17 left in the third quarter.

The Warriors left it late to knot the score but did so on Turner's eight-yard plunge with 1:26 left to play.

Overtime loomed, but White County wasn't interested, Taylor pouncing on a fumbled handoff to set up his own winning run.

The Warriors travel to face Stephens County in a huge 8-AAAA contest next Friday.
