SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett needed a response after last week's defeat to Norcross.
The Bulldogs got one in the second half on Friday.
North Gwinnett pulled away from a 24-24 halftime tie, holding Peachtree Ridge scoreless en route to a 51-24 victory in Suwanee.

"We've been through a four week grind, so for us to play like that tonight, especially in the second half, was huge," North Gwinnett coach Bob Sphire said. "I told the kids last week that we were in a very similar situation as Norcross was in last year after we beat them early. And they came back and won state.

"We could still end up on top too."

The Bulldogs (5-2, 3-1 Region 7-AAAAAA) reached the mountain top in the second half on Friday, as they rolled up 449 total yards -- including 303 yards passing for quarterback John Urzua, who completed 21 of 40 passes for 4 TDs.

Urzua connected with Almonzo Brown (5 catches, 102 yards) and Josh Imatorbhrbhe (8 catches, 102 yards) on two scoring strikes each.

Kameron Pickett also rushed seven times for rush 54 yards and 2 TDs, while Jordan Frye had 10 rushes for 37 yards and Jordan Weddington carried 11 times for 47 yards.

Placekicker Brad Harvey also played a key role, nailing field goals of 27, 32 and 38 yards and also driving all of his kickoffs into the end zone.

North Gwinnett finished with 28 first downs.
The Bulldogs are off next week before traveling to Duluth on Oct. 24.
