OAKWOOD -- For much of the first half on Friday, East Hall kept West Hall under wraps.

But it only took about 80 seconds for the Spartans to break out and turn the game on its ear.

West Hall scored two touchdowns over the final 37 seconds of the first half and added another score less than a minute into the third quarter to grab control of the contest before pulling away for a 51-22 victory in Oakwood.

"The key to tonight was turnovers and big plays. They have so many weapons that can play fast but we do too," West Hall coach Tony Lotti said. "How we ended the first half was very important. Bryan's kids came ready to play. Right there before the half we were a little flat, so we needed to make a few plays and we did. Then we came out and played a great second half."

The second quarter spark led to an avalanche of offense, as the Spartans finished with 509 total yards spread throughout the team. Six different West Hall players scored touchdowns and three running backs racked up over 100 yards -- led by 184 yards on nine carries from Tyquan Statham. Jay Crawford also managed 101 yards on just three attempts. In all 10 different backs carried the ball for West Hall.

"I was really happy with as many kids as we were able to get involved in the scheme," Lotti said. "I felt like we played very well at times. They've got a very good team, and Devin Watson is dangerous with his legs and throwing the football. We wanted to make sure we were playing as long as they were playing."

Yet perhaps the performance of the game belonged to Kwon Williams, who rushed 15 times for 115 yards, caught two passes, picked off one East Hall pass, threw for a touchdown and had a punt return for a score called back due to a penalty.

Williams' pass -- a 40-yard end-around toss to Hykeem Bennett -- came in the middle of the Spartans' late second quarter explosion, pushing West Hall in front 20-7 with just 8.5 seconds left in the half.

"Every team works those kind of plays, and I felt like we needed something to gain some momentum," Lotti said.

It followed a lengthy drive and score from Cameron Millsap that gave the Spartans (5-1, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) a 13-7 advantage with just 37 seconds left before halftime.

Williams kept things going after the interval, taking a handoff and exploding for a 76-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter and a 27-7 lead.

East Hall (2-4, 1-2) continued to fight and put up plenty of its own numbers -- the Vikings totaled 416 yards, including 282 yards passing for Devin Watson -- but West Hall wasn't about to yield its breathing room.

Watson completed 20 of 31 passes on the night, including two TDs and also rushed for 87 yards. Rex Purgason proved his top target, catching six passes for 107 yards and a touchdown, while Jiel Vargas had five catches for 77 yards. Junior Lee also caught three balls for 65 yards and a score.

The Spartans made the most of four East Hall turnovers on the night, while only giving the ball away once.

West Hall -- which stayed tied at the front of the Region 7-AAA race -- will look to keep rolling next week at Franklin County.
East Hall, meanwhile, will play host to Johnson.
