LEXINGTON, Ga. (AP) Authorities say they now believe a woman found dead alongside a Georgia highway more than a month ago was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The body of 31-year-old Ashley LeAnne Watson was found Sept. 8 on the side of Georgia Highway 22, north of Lexington.

Oglethorpe County Sheriff Mike Smith said previously that when deputies arrived at the scene, there were no obvious signs of trauma on Watson's body.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that an autopsy at the state crime lab revealed internal injuries substantial enough to cause her death.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Jesse Maddox said investigators to not know whether foul play occurred. Maddox told the Athens newspaper that it's possible a motorist struck Watson and didn't know it.
