UNDATED - There will be few contested local races on the ballots that greet northeast Georgia voters Tuesday but a number of them will contain SPLOST, alcohol sales, or bond referendums.

Most of the local candidates are running unopposed, having secured what was tantamount to election after winning their primary elections earlier this year.

Voters will find contested races for a number of state offices - most notably the hotly-contested races for Governor and U.S. Senate. In addition there are three proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot. One would add reckless driving penalties or fees to the state's brain and spinal injury trust fund. Another would prohibit any increase in the state income tax effective January 1, 2015. The third would allow property owned by the University System of Georgia and operated by providers of student housing and other facilities to remain exempt from taxation.

Among the places in northeast Georgia where SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) questions will be on the ballot are Habersham, Barrow and Dawson counties.

In addition to those referendums, voters in Baldwin will be asked to decide if the Sunday sale of packaged liquor and liquor-by-the-drink should be allowed while in Demorest and Banks County the Sunday sale of packaged liquor will be on the ballot.

Barrow County voters will also be asked to make a decision on allowing county officials to creat a tax allocation district (TAD)

In Forsyth County, meanwhile, voters will decide the fate of a $200 million transportation bond issue.

White County voters will be asked to make a decision on a land use ordinance as well as a homestead exemption for school district taxes for residents age 70 or older.
