ALPHARETTA, Ga. (AP) An insurance firm has announced that it will close its offices in the Atlanta suburb of Alpharetta.

The move by American International Group Inc. will mean the loss of about 400 jobs.

Officials say no timetable for the closure has been announced, and it's not known when the job cuts will start.

New York-based AIG said in a statement to the Atlanta radio station that it decided to ``decommission'' the Alpharetta site known as its Georgia Shared Service Center.

The company said it plans to move processes and functions from the site on Northwinds Parkway to its existing U.S. and Asia Pacific Shared Service sites.

AIG said it remains ``deeply committed'' to the Atlanta area and has more than 1,000 employees in Georgia.
