GAINESVILLE - Plans to expand a supermarket on the city's soundside and plans for a restaurant on the north side of town are on the agenda for next month's Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board.

Greg Loyd is asking to vary the side yard setback requirement for a one-acre tract at Atlanta Highway and Memorial Park Drive to accommodate the supermarket expansion.

The northside restaurant involves a request by David Johnson to rezone nearly 1.5 acres at Virginia Circle and Thompson Bridge Road in order to construct a restaurant with a drive-thru and a retail building. At its Dec. 2 meeting, the city council voted to send the matter back to the planning and appeals board.

A representative for the applicant requested the delay, saying there were a number of issues the developers were hoping to work out, and that a simple denial could set them back eight to nine months by forcing them to reapply for the rezoning. (See earlier story. Second link below.)

Two days before that meeting, the planning and appeals board had unanimously denied the request. (See earlier story. First link below.)

The planning board meets January 13.
