BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) Police in coastal Georgia say a man has died after a target shooting accident.

Glynn County Police Capt. Marissa Tindale tells the Florida Times-Union that 66-year-old William Joseph Crooms died of a single gunshot wound in a wooded area of Brunswick on Monday afternoon.

The man's friend told police he fired at a target and was unaware that Crooms had walked into an area behind the area he was shooting at.

The man said he later began searching for Crooms and found him lying on the ground behind the target.

Crooms' body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Savannah and no charges have been filed.
