White County Public Safety spokeswoman Ana Newberry said the child's hand got caught in a chicken house curtain winch. The incident happened in the Shoal Creek community west of Cleveland.
Newberry said White County Fire Services Station 5 was dispatched to assist medical personnel setting up a landing zone for a medical helicopter, but she said weather conditions in the area at the time prevented them from making the flight to White County.
A White County Emergency Medical Services ambulance transported the youth to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where the helicopter was able to land and transport the victim to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Newberry said.
No update on the child's condition was available.
