CLEVELAND - The City of Clarkesville Mayor and City Council has paid special recognition to the White County Fire Department for their assistance in helping battle a fire in downtown Clarkesville on the night of March 5th.

Clarkesville fire Chief Jerry Palmer attended the White County Board of Commissioners meeting in Cleveland on Monday and presented a proclamation to White County Fire Department Personnel for their efforts.

Chief Palmer, prior to making the formal presentation, told the White County Commissioners, "without the support and guidance they get from you guys and from the taxpayers and from Director Murphy and Chief Alexander, who I served many years at Hall County with, they would not have been a position to come and help up."

He added, "Without them and others who immediately answered our call for help, for that reason out of 40,000 square feet we only lost eight."
