WINDER - Two Gwinnett County men have been arrested and charged with stealing hundreds of dollars worth of changed from a coin-operated laundromat in Winder by using a contraption that "tricked" the change machine into dispensing money.

In a press statement, the Winder Police Department said detectives arrested
Joseph Royce Chance Coughlin, 30, of Suwanee, and Kelsey Frost, 25, of Lawrenceville, as Coughlin was stealing money from the machine early on the morning of May 16.

Coughlin apparently used a $20 bill stiffened with packing tape and inserted it into the coin machine for change and then quickly removed the bill, according to statements released to the Athens Banner-Herald.

Both Coughlin and Frost were charged with burglary and theft by taking.

Authorities said between May 5 and May 10, the Winder Police Department received reports of six other incidents involving money being stolen from the coin machine. Officers had some images on video from the other incidents but had been unable to identify the suspects.

Winder detectives are checking with Suwanee, Lawrenceville and other surrounding areas to see if any other departments have had similar crimes.
