AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) Sheriff's officials in eastern Georgia say a woman accused of leaving her infant in an unattended vehicle has been arrested.

Richmond County sheriff's spokeswoman Monica Belser says authorities were called to Virginia College in Augusta when someone heard an infant crying in an unattended car Thursday.

Authorities say the child was left in a carrier with a blanket draped over it. The car's windows and sunroof were open.

Belser says a deputy climbed through the sunroof and removed the baby from the vehicle. The boy was taken for medical treatment and is in his grandmother's custody.

Authorities say the boy's mother, 20-year-old Alicia Manigault is charged with child cruelty. Belser says she was taking a final exam for cosmetology school at the time.
