Woman hurts back when boat hits large wake on Lanier

SOCIAL CIRCLE - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources entered the Fourth of July weekend with a goal of "no drownings, no boating incidents and no BUIs"; they are meeting at least one of those goals, according to statistics released late Friday night. <br />

DNR said rangers issued 12 citations for boating under the influence (BUI) violations. One of those occurred on Lake Lanier.<br />
<br />
A press release indicated there were two boating incidents on Lake Lanier, one involving injuries. DNR spokesman Mark McKinnon said in the injury-related incident, a woman fell inside of a boat because of a large wake. He said the woman hurt her back. A total of three boating incidents occurred Friday on Georgia waterways.<br />
<br />
So far, the DNR has reported no drownings for the holiday weekend.
