ATLANTA (AP) Early returns are trickling in as Georgia Republicans await the outcome of an expensive, bitter Senate primary runoff between businessman David Perdue and U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston.

Perdue led an initial primary in May, but neither candidate got the majority required to win outright.

Initial precinct totals from the runoff suggest that it will be a close race.

The winner will face Democrat Michelle Nunn and Libertarian Amanda Swafford in a contest that will help determine which party controls the Senate for the final two years of President Barack Obama's administration.

Kingston supporters are gathering tonight at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta.

Perdue has already greeted supporters at his campaign party at a hotel in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta.
