COMMERCE - A 9-year-old Commerce boy was killed when he rode through a stop sign and was struck by a van Wednesday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Jackson County Emergency Services personnel said they were called to Brookwood Avenue at Carson Street in Commerce around 3:45 p.m.

Investigating troopers said it appeared Alexander Lamar King rode his bicycle through a stop sign from Brookwood Avenue turning left onto Carson Street. The child was struck by a 2006 Econoline van.
