Hearings planned in Gainesville, Buford on Common Core, other education issues

ATLANTA - The state Board of Education has scheduled hearings in Gainesville and Buford on the controversial Common Core Standards and other public education issues.<br /> <br /> The Buford hearing will be held Tuesday at the Buford Fine Arts Center. The one in Gainesville is planned for September 9 at Gainesville High School. Each will begin at 7:00.<br /> <br /> Each member of the state Board of Education has scheduled a public hearing in their congressional district, with the goal of hearing comments from interested citizens and educators regarding the performance and problems of public education.<br /> <br /> This includes hearing comments about the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts as part of the State Board's formal evaluation of these standards.<br /> <br /> Persons wishing to speak should sign in upon arrival.
