CLEVELAND - Three White County schools were placed on what's known as "soft lock-down" Tuesday morning for what school officials said was a suspicious person in the area.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson said around 10 a.m. they were notified about a possible suspicious person near the 9th Grade Academy located on Old Blairsville Road in Cleveland. Wilson said just as a precaution they placed that school, along with White County Middle School and Jack P. Nix Primary School, which are located nearby, on soft lock-down.

He said under a soft lock-down, students and administrators are kept inside the school, but classes continue as usual.

Wilson said Cleveland Police and Sheriff's Department officers patrolled the area but were not able to locate the suspicious person.

The schools will remain in the soft lock-down mode for the remainder of the school day, according to Wilson.
