ATLANTA - A prosecutor in northeast Georgia told Atlanta media Tuesday a grand jury will investigate a police raid that severely injured a toddler when a flash grenade detonated in the child's play pen.

Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Brian Rickman said that he will present results of an investigation into the botched raid to a grand jury on Sept. 29.

Rickman told WSB-TV that the grand jury is expected to determine whether the raid was handled appropriately, and it could return criminal charges if warranted. No charges have been filed in the case.

In an interview with AccessNorthGA.com last week, Rickman indicated that the case might be turned over to a grand jury for investigation, although he gave no specific date when that might happen. (See story linked below.)
Bounkham Phonesavanh was asleep in a play pen in late May when authorities looking for a suspected drug dealer threw a flash grenade into the house.
Family members said the boy has undergone several extensive surgeries since the raid.
Bou Bou Phonesavahn was injured during the drug raid earlier this year.
