WEEK 3: Lanier takes big step; GHS rebounds; Spartans roll on

Lightening may have been popping around the state on Friday, but the real electricity was put on out on the high school gridiron, as a number of northeast Georgia teams put up big results.<br /> <br /> Lanier served notice that they are for real in the Region 8-AAAAA title race with a 27-12 defeat of Flowery Branch in Sugar Hill.<br /> <br /> Gainesville, meanwhile, showed it is still very much in the 8-AAAAA hunt as well, courtesy a 46-6 defeat of Winder-Barrow at City Park.<br /> <br /> Speaking of in the hunt -- West Hall may be hunting some big game indeed, as the Spartans moved to 3-0 on the season courtesy a 38-0 defeat of North Hall. It was West Hall's first win over the Trojans since 2002.<br /> <br /> Jefferson also moved to 4-0 on the season courtesy a fightback 28-7 defeat of arch-rival Commerce in Jefferson. <br /> <br /> Union County also moved to 3-0, cruising past Andrews, N.C. 49-20. <br /> <br /> Meanwhile, Chestatee, Lumpkin County and Towns County broke through to notch their first wins of the season. The War Eagles went on the road to defeat Pepperell 24-19, while Lumpkin County ran past Johnson 14-3.
