Body found partially submerged in river near Athens

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) Police are investigating the death of a person after a hiker found the body in a river at a park in the Athens area. <br /> <br /> Authorities say the body, which appears to be that of a woman, was found Tuesday afternoon in Ben Burton Park in western Athens-Clarke County. <br /> <br /> Police Lt. David Leedahl tells The Athens Banner-Herald that the body was partially submerged in the Middle Oconee River. Leedahl said the hiker found the body nearly a mile into the park, which is off Mitchell Bridge Road. <br /> <br /> Detectives were treating the location as a possible crime scene as they tried to determine the cause of death. <br />
