GAINESVILLE - West Hall Middle School 7th grader Emily Wood won the 2015 Hall County School District Spelling Bee Tuesday morning.

Wood will now represent the school system in the upcoming GAE District 3 Spelling Bee in Winder on February 25.

Terri Hollander, a 5th grader at Sardis Enrichment School, was 1st
Runner-up, while Roman Yaskulka, a 6th grader at North Hall Middle, was 2nd Runner-up.

The annual event was held at First Baptist Church. Linda Martin of Sugar Hill
Elementary served as administrator/historian.

As has always been the case in this annual event of representative spellers from the
elementary and middle schools, the competition was highly competitive with multiple
rounds required to finally get to a winner.

Wood emerged as champion from the field of 31 spellers with the correct spelling of the word GOATEE. She also correctly spelled the words VACUOUSNESS and APPURTENANCES, among many other words, on her way to the championship.
