GAINESVILLE — A Gainesville man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting incident at a church parking lot last Friday afternoon.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Van said Roy Mitchell Peck, 54, and the victim John Henry Rogers, 42, were involved in an argument in the parking lot of Lakewood Baptist Church on Thompson Bridge Road. Both men live in Gainesville.

Peck is accused of shooting Rogers once in the abdomen. Rogers' current medical condition is unknown.

Van did not say why the two were arguing, saying that the criminal investigation into the incident continues.

Van said Peck remains in the Hall County Detention Center.

Police have stated neither man had any affiliation with the church.
