ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) Officials say they're pleased with the outcome of the so-called ``Frat Beach'' party on St. Simons Island's East Beach.
The Brunswick News reports that about 6,000 college students descended to the beach Friday afternoon during the annual Georgia-Florida football weekend.
Glynn County Commission Chairman Dale Provenzano says the county's efforts to bring some semblance of order to the event were a success.
Provenzano says the beach was relatively litter-free when the party ended around dusk. Provenzano also says there was no blatant underage drinking and just six people went to jail for infractions.
Officials say the increased attention to controlling the so-called ``Frat Beach'' party came in response to local opinion that the event had gotten out of hand in recent years. Officials say underage drinking had been rampant.
