AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) Officials say conjoined twins who were delivered this week at an Augusta hospital have died.

A statement issued through Georgia Regents University says the twin boys died Wednesday night due to "multiple complex medical complications.''

The statement says the twins, who were delivered by C-section Monday at Georgia Regents Medical Center, had remained in critical condition in the neonatal intensive care unit at the adjoining Children's Hospital of Georgia for two days.

The hospital says their mother, 26-year-old Brittany Crafton, is in good condition during this difficult time.

Dr. Paul Browne, a maternal and fetal medicine specialist at Georgia Regents, said weeks before the delivery that the boys' heart appeared to be in good shape.

The hospital says the twins were the first conjoined birth at the medical center.
