CUMMING — Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies are actively looking for the person or persons responsible for hanging a dog in a tree in Bethel Park.
The deceased female boxer mix was discovered by hikers on Saturday, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez said investigators know the act was intentional.
"It is very disturbing. It is something we take very seriously - the state of Georgia takes it very seriously," said Rodriguez. "Cruelty to animals is an aggravated act, so it is a felony."
Rodriguez said a necropsy is being performed on the dog to determine cause of death.
He said the owners have been located, but he did not release their names.
