CUMMING - An elderly Forsyth County woman has died from injuries suffered early Tuesday afternoon in a house fire in the eastern-central part of the county.

According to Forsyth County Fire Division Chief Jason Shivers, crews were dispatched to the home on Old Pruitt Road near River Club Drive just before 2 p.m.

"Upon the arrival of the first fire engines on scene, that would be Engine Company 15, they reported heavy smoke and fire conditions coming from this home," he said.

Shivers said dispatchers were initially advised of a civilian possibly trapped inside the home. He said when firefighters failed to locate any potential victims outside the building, they "had to perform a rapid and aggressive victim search and interior fire attack."

He added: "They shortly did find, in fact, a victim inside the home, and pulled from the structure an adult female who had suffered serious injuries as a result of the fire."

Authorities began performing emergency medical procedures on the victim, 78-year-old Judith Parsley, who was transported from the scene to Northside Hospital Forsyth. Shivers said Parsely's injuries proved too severe to overcome.

"Sadly, the one individual...passed away later in the day at the emergency department of Northside Hospital Forsyth," he explained.
Parsley's body was transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab for an autopsy.

Shivers said the home sustained heavy damage in the fire and will likely be determined a total loss. The Forsyth County Fire Marshal’s Office is handling the subsequent investigation that will seek to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
