GAINESVILLE - An undercover investigation that was prompted by a recent Craigslist advertisement has culminated with the arrest of a Gainesville man on multiple charges.

According to Lt. Scott Ware with the Hall County Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (MANS), the investigation was initiated by the Hall County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) Investigations Division two weeks earlier when 50-year-old Timothy Wayne Garrett posted an ad online that stated his desire to obtain the substance GHB, commonly known as the "date rape" drug.

Ware said the ad then detailed how Garrett wished to drug his wife with the substance and have a stranger sexually assault her, at which point Garrett would begin to assault her as well.

A correspondence was initiated that resulted in Garrett meeting with two undercover agents, one of whom was posing as the individual who would assault the suspect's wife. Working in tandem on this effort were officers with the HCSO Patrol Division, HCSO Investigations Division and the Hall County MANS unit.

At this meeting, which was held on Friday, Ware said Garrett confirmed his intentions to the agents and exchanged $80.00 for the illegal substance. The suspect was subsequently arrested without incident.

Garrett was later booked into the Hall County Jail on charges of Criminal Attempt to Commit a Felony (Possession of GHB with the Intent to Distribute) and Criminal attempt to Commit Rape.
