ATHENS, Ga. (AP) The trial date is now set for a man a man accused of fatally shooting a northeast Georgia police officer and wounding another.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that Western Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard scheduled June 1 for jury selection to begin in the trial of Jamie Hood.

Jurors will be chosen from Elbert County and brought to the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse after prosecutors and defense lawyers expressed concerns about selecting an impartial jury locally due to publicity.

Hood is accused in the death of Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Elmer ``Buddy'' Christian. Authorities say he also wounded a second officer in 2011.

Hood will also be standing trial for the December 2010 shooting death of Kenneth Omari Wray after prosecutors successfully argued that both killings were linked.
