Police eye former N. Ga. ministry in slain teen's cold case

GENESEO, N.Y. (AP) Investigators from New York are planning to return to the South as part of their ongoing probe into the killing of a teenage girl whose body was found in an upstate field more than 35 years ago.

The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reports that investigators from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office are pursuing leads that could link Tammy Jo Alexander to a now-defunct prison ministry in the city of Young Harris in north Georgia.

The 16-year-old disappeared from Brooksville, Florida in the late 1970s. In late January, Livingston County authorities announced that a body found in a local field in 1979 had been identified as the missing teenager. Police said she had been shot.

The former Georgia ministry worked with inmates who had been released on probation or parole.
