GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Kiwanis Club honored a Gainesville businessman and a Chestatee High School senior with its top awards at the club's annual banquet Tuesday night.

Lorry Schrage, the owner of Saul's in downtown Gainesville, was the 2015 recipient of the John W. Jacobs, Jr. Youth Service Award, the highest honor bestowed by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club. Schrage was commended for developing a Kiwanis Club project that provides every third grader in Hall County with a dictionary. Over the past decade, the project has seen more than 30,000 dictionaries distributed to public and private school third grade students.

Also honored at the Tuesday night banquet was Rushir Parikh, a senior from Chestatee High School. Parikh received the John C. Thompson Youth Leadership Award. The honor comes with a $1,000 scholarship.

The Gainesville Kiwanis Club is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year.
