"This gift is significant for the Humane Society is so many ways," said Executive Director Julie Edwards in a press statement.
"It will help support and sustain several important organizational programs so HSNEGA can have even greater reach and provide more assistance to help at-need animals in our community."
Edwards said the funds will be used to support and expand HSNEGA's foster program, to support the facility's adoptable animal food program, and to fund future facility renovations that will provide up-to-date intake and housing areas for homeless, rescued animals.
"I had the pleasure of getting to know Conrad during the past five years at HSNEGA," Edwards says. "He was a kind, humble man who was passionate about helping animals in need. It is our desire to use this gift to honor this passion and his generosity."
A long-time Gainesville resident, Holsten passed away in February 2014 following an extended illness. Locally, Holsten was known as the owner/operator of Conrad's Garden Center in Oakwood. He also was the proud parent of many adopted animals including Fat Boy, a dachshund mix he adopted from HSNEGA in 2012.
