DANIELSVILLE, Ga. (AP) A sheriff's deputy is recovering after he was struck by a car while working a wreck on northeast Georgia highway.

Madison County sheriff's Deputy Jimmy Justice was treated Thursday at a hospital in nearby Athens for an injury to his side. Chief Deputy Shawn Burns said Friday a passing Toyota Corolla hit Justice with one of its side mirrors as it passed him on Georgia Highway 106.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports Justice and other deputies were responding to a call that a vehicle had struck a cow. Burns says patrol cars at the scene had lights on and deputies wore reflective vests.

The Georgia State Patrol pulled over the 72-year-old driver and charged him with hit and run, driving too fast for conditions and failing to maintain a lane.
