WINDER - It took more than five hours for authorities to talk a suicidal Winder man out of his home Tuesday.

Winder police said they were called to the home on Oak Street around 4:45 p.m., and they found an armed man inside the house threatening suicide.

Police evacuated the area and called the Barrow County SWAT team for assistance.

They said it took five hours of negotiating, but they were finally able to talk the man into leaving the house. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. No charges have been filed.

In a press statement Winder Police Chief Jim Fullington said , “We are thankful the incident ended successfully without anyone getting hurt. We want to thank Sheriff Jud Smith and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and would also like to thank members of the community who cooperated and assisted the police department.”
