GAINESVILLE - A 19-year-old Gainesville man has been denied bond after he ran over and killed his 2-year-old nephew Sunday afternoon in east Hall County.

Joshua Saunders made his first court appearance Monday, where a judge ordered him held without bond.

Saunders will next appear in court on May 11 for a committal hearing, according to Hall County authorities.

Saunders was arrested Sunday following the incident on Miller Drive. His 2-year-old nephew walked behind Saunders' vehicle and was run over. The Georgia State Patrol said Saunders left the scene. He was found nearby by Hall County Sheriff's Office deputies and arrested on charges of DUI, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

Saunders' family spoke with Atlanta TV media on Monday, and they said Saunders shouldn't be in jail because the incident was not intentional, but simply a tragic accident.
