LAWRENCEVILLE - Three months ago, a little girl died after suffering convulsive seizures at her home on Reading Ct. in Lawrenceville; now, authorities believe her uncle, who was her adoptive father, killed her.

Gwinnett County police Friday issued a press statement announcing felony murder charges against Rodney Hamilton, 49.

The charges were filed after the release of a medical examiner's report on April 24, indicating that 3-year-old Tamiah Hamilton had died as a result of closed head trauma, an injury likely caused by another person. Police said Rodney Hamilton could offer no explanation for the medical examiner's findings when he was questioned on Thursday, April 30, so he was charged with the child's death.

Initial police reports indicated Rodney Hamilton was the only adult in the home with Tamiah at the time of her injury in January. He and his wife were interviewed at the time Tamiah was hospitalized. Police said they did not have evidence to make charges at that time.

Three other children also lived in the Hamilton home; one of them was the younger sister of the victim. The younger child was taken into state custody after Tamiah's death. Police indicated the girls were Hamilton's nieces and had been adopted. The older children remained in the home with their biological mother.

There is no word on a court date for Rodney Hamilton at this time.
