CUMMING - A Dawsonville man has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree in connection with a Memorial Day holiday weekend crash in Forsyth County.

Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol said the crash on Jewell Slaton Road near the intersection of Highway 9 killed 39-year-old Jeffrey Craig Bell of Cumming; Bell's passenger was injured.

Troopers said  21-year-old Christopher Schenden failed to yield to Bell, and the motorcycle struck Schenden's vehicle in the driver side door.

In addition to vehicular homicide, Schenden was charged with driving under the influence, serious injury by motor vehicle and failure to yield while turning left.

The crash was one of 15 fatal accidents that occurred over the 78-hour Memorial Day weekend travel period.
