GAINESVILLE — Charges likely will be upgraded against a man charged in connection with an accident on Browns Bridge Road late last month following the death of one of the people in a car he hit.

Authorities said Tuesday that Samuel Mark Phillips already had been charged with DUI and traffic offenses, but now he could face stiffer charges.

One of the four people in a car that was hit by Phillips' vehicle the morning of May 24 died at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Monday.

Cory Buckley suffered a number of broken bones, as well as other injuries, according to family friends. Buckley was 60 years old.

Four other people were also hurt in that crash, including Buckley's husband and two grandchildren. Phillips also sustained injuries.

Buckley was well-known as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) supervisor in Hall and Dawson counties. According to a Facebook post by CASA DawsonHall, Buckley had worked for the agency for 20 years.
